Because everything tiny is cute, Tammy creates an adorable bottlecap pincushion made with sock scraps! Great for Easter baskets!
Materials: one plastic bottlecap, sock scraps, embroidery floss, a smidgen of pillow stuffing (poly-fil), scissors, stickpins.
Time: Approx. 30 minutes
Step 1: Cut Up Your Socks!
Cut three pieces of material for your pincushion: one fabric circle with about the same diameter as the base of the bottlecap, one fabric circle with a diameter about a half-inch larger than the bottlecap, and a strip of fabric that fits snugly around the sides of the bottlecap.
Step 2: Prepare the Cushion!
Loosely thread embroidery floss around the outside of the larger fabric circle. This will become your cushion!
Step 3: Stuff It!
Now add a pinch of pillow stuffing (poly-fill) to the center of the cushion fabric and pull the floss tight to make the cushion. Tie the floss. Your cushion should fit happily into the bottlecap.
Step 4: Cover the Cap!
Place the small fabric circle on the bottom of the bottlecap, pin the fabric strip around the side of the cap, and sew the two pieces together. Your bottlecap should now be covered!
Step 5: Sew the Cushion to the Base!
Now put the cushion into the bottlecap and sew it to the fabric on the sides of the cap. You’ve got a bottlecap pincushion!
Step 6: Cute-ify!
Add a bow, beads, buttons or other baubles. You’ve got a tiny, sockoriffic place to stash your pins!
